      ❝ + POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES : Underneath all that rough and tumble exterior, Wolfwood is actually a rather sweet kind of guy. He's the type to shoot first and ask questions later, sure, but he also pays careful attention to the emotions and motives of the people around him.❝ - NEGATIVE ATTRIBUTES : Nicholas keeps most of himself away from the prying eye, and attempts to uphold a professional distance from everyone he meets. He can be a bit of an ass, and twice as stubborn.

❝ Without a single doubt, Wolfwood is a complicated and conflicted type of person. Though he professes one must "do no harm," and deeply detests the idea of killing living beings, he considers violence to be necessary to survival. After all, if he doesn't do the shooting first, he's bound to get shot. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, and he's not about to lay down and accept his fate. At first glance, he's a cold and outright flippant man, with an arrogant streak. He's sarcastic, aloof, and always has something to say. All of this is intentional, however-- naivety is weakness, and weaknesses are always taken advantage of, without fail.That was what he was taught, anyway. Considering how he was taken from the orphanage as a preteen and promptly forced into years of scientific experimentation, his worldview is terribly bleak. He understands that no matter what he does, he won't be long for the world-- rapid aging and over a decade and a half of violence have changed him for the worse, as far as he's concerned. Nicholas has intentionally buried the kindness and gentle nature he once upheld, though everything he does is still for the sake of other people-- no matter how much he tells himself it's selfish.

Beneath that tough exterior, hardened by years of darkness, is a young man who wants nothing more than to bask in the light. Nicholas has always been protective, looking out for the weak and scared, because nobody was there to look out for him. It's a natural conclusion, one that he fervently denies any connection to. Even so, he truly shines when he goes back to the one place he ever felt was a home-- the orphanage on the outskirts of December. Nick goes out of his way to provide for the kids, to spend time with them and take some weight off of the woman who runs the place.Most of his earnings from the work he did for the Eye of Michael cult- following his "promotion" to The Punisher- went straight to the orphanage, keeping it in business and paying for upkeep. Despite his hidden good nature, Wolfwood doesn't hesitate to get the job done, pushing himself beyond his limits almost constantly. He has very little concern for anything beyond the people he cares for, and most certainly not his own health-- he already knows that the outlook is bleak, after all. Despite being flippant and dismissive of many peoples' troubles, he still offers solutions in the best way he knows how-- displaying that kindness in subtle ways.Even though his worldview is dark, there's no doubt that he has a lighthearted, almost childish energy at times-- especially when surrounded by his friends.

▍ ❝   I.
When Nicholas was very young, his parents were targeted by the Eye of Michael for their very delicate situation. They offered his parents money in exchange for their child-- something they strongly refused. When money did not work, they resorted to threats-- eventually forcing them to leave the boy with his uncle, so that he wouldn't be at risk.The cult eventually tracked them down and killed them, leaving the boy well and truly orphaned-- it was soon after the news of their deaths that Nicholas' uncle turned for the worst, going from begrudging and abrasive to straight abuse. Wolfwood later killed the man, before being taken in by the church orphanage— as a front for the Eye of Michael's operations. Really, this was their plan from the start.He was quiet and often isolated himself, but held a fondness for the animals kept on the property. He often took care of them-- and looked out for the other kids, from afar.A few years after he was left in the care of the orphanage, a younger boy-- Livio-- was dropped off at the orphanage. Being a meek and emotional sort, the boy was often subject to bullying-- something that Nicholas didn't tolerate. He became something of a guardian for Livio, and the two quickly grew close.When the Eye of Michael cultists returned to the orphanage some time later, they took Nicholas from the orphanage-- and Livio insisted he be taken with them, something Nicholas refused. He agreed to go with the men if they left Livio alone, and they accepted.

▍ ❝   II.
Under the gaze of the Eye of Michael, training was rigorous and strict, and there was often verbal and physical abuse. Nicholas fought and resisted them as hard as he could, even after days straight of threats and solitary confinement. Nothing was making him budge-- not until they brought in Livio. He was informed that they would inflict everything meant for him onto Livio, if he did not comply with their every wish.So, he did. He was subjected to gruesome experimentation, things that altered his mind and body in inhumane ways-- the details of which he has mostly suppressed, thanks to the passage of time. He became cold, and efficient, and lethal. He carried their burdens, their weapons, and their violence. He became a weapon, fit to destroy the enemies of the cult.No matter his success, however, Livio was not spared his suffering.Wolfwood could do nothing-- he couldn't take back the pain he'd suffered, nor the pain Livio endured for his sake, being told the same thing he had been. The meek, timid child Livio had been was gone, replaced with something.. colder. Nicholas, too, was no longer the same person. Years had passed.By then, it was too late. He greeted this knowledge with empty acceptance, taking on his promotion without a fight. Eventually, he was sent to carry out a mission for someone very important. The man central to this cult, the man even the scientist who made him feared-- Millions Knives.

▍ ❝   III.
His instructions were simple-- hunt down the man's brother, protect him, and guide him to the Eye of Michael. It was a simple job, one without complications and afforded no questions. He was to show up, pretend to save the day, and do a little misleading-- nothing particularly egregious.However, he soon found that things were far more complicated than that. That his target was far more complicated than that, infinitely more frustrating- and a better man- than he.In all of his contradictions, Nicholas couldn't abandon him to his fate-- and in the process, accepted his own.

▍ ❝   ONE.
Wolfwood, despite taking his ideals from a haphazardly-assembled idea of a religion passed on to him by the lady running the church's orphanage, he has very little faith in any kind of an actual higher power. That isn't to say he completely disregards faith, however. He understands it as something that comforts the public, and he does genuinely act as a priest.It was something he desperately clung to while in the clutches of the Eye of Michael-- and they tried to use that to their advantage. Unfortunately for them, he was just a good actor-- possessing no loyalty to the cult itself. He just does anything he thinks will best preserve what little innocence remains in the world.

▍ ❝   TWO.
Due to the rapidly-aged state of his body, Wolfwood appears to be in his mid-to-late thirties. He also regularly deals with chronic pain, thanks to the rapid growth he had to undergo in his youth.Despite the risk and long-term damage to his health, he would get very, very sick if he didn't consume the vials supplied to him by the Eye of Michael, necessitating his connection to them. Following his death, this is no longer a concern.

▍ ❝   THREE.
Despite his appearance and demeanor, Nicholas is actually a very well-read man. He's fond of novels, stories, and texts on zoology. His love for animals has carried on from his youth, and were he not forced into mercenary work, he would have gone into animal care, particularly veterinary work.This is especially true when it comes to No Man's Land's thomases-- he is particularly fond of (and good with) care of birds.He also has a very slight drawl.
